Liverpool has agreed to a deal with SC Heerenveen to acquire winger Oussama Assaidi, according to the team's official site. The 24-year-old Moroccan has played his entire career in the Netherlands.

Assaidi scored 10 goals in 27 appearances for SC Heerenveen in the Dutch Eredivisie, which is the top football league in the Netherlands. In all, he's scored 19 times over the past two seasons, leading to interest from the Reds.

New Reds manager Brendan Rodgers has spent a lot of time since taking over the club looking for ways to improve the team's attack. Big names like Clint Dempsey of Fulham and Nuri Sahin of Real Madrid have been linked to Liverpool during the summer window.

Even though Assaidi isn't on the same level as those two players at this point in his career, he's a nice under-the-radar signing for the Reds. He's improved his goal-scoring touch over the past few seasons and has shown plenty of potential.

And at just £3 million, it's a low-risk move for the Reds that has a chance to pay off in a big way if Assaidi can make a smooth transition to the Premier League and continue to develop like he did with SC Heerenveen.

Liverpool opens the new season on Saturday with a match against West Bromwich Albion. It's unclear if Assaidi will be available for that match on such short notice or what role he will play within the team once he does arrive, though.
