Cody Rhodes is in trouble, as far as his career as a singles wrestler goes. Rhodes is having a blast as a member of Rhodes Scholars with Damien Sandow and additionally, they are helping reinvent the tag-team division. Does that sound familiar: Cody Rhodes in a successful tag team? Rhodes’ success as a tag-team wrestler started under the tutelage of Hardcore Holly. Both were tag-team champions in 2007. Rhodes then turned on Holly and became champions with Ted Dibiase Jr. They formed the “Priceless” tag team, which then morphed into “Legacy” after joining with Randy Orton. They never won the tag titles under “Legacy,” but they were still a force to be reckoned with. Rhodes didn’t stop winning the tag titles. He briefly held the tag titles with Drew McIntyre after winning a tag-team turmoil match from the Hart Dynasty. Rhodes shouldn’t be in this spot, but for some reason, he is. He’s been successful as a midcarder. He held the Intercontinental title from August to April of this year. Rhodes also won the title again after defeating the Big Show at Extreme Rules. Since his second reign, Rhodes has floundered. With nothing to do, Rhodes joined forces with Sandow. They aren’t champions yet, but they are still in the forefront to take the tag-team championship from Kane and Daniel Bryan. He shouldn’t be stuck there for his career. How many times will we see Rhodes form another tag team to win the tag titles another time? The current path Cody Rhodes is on is to stay as a tag-team superstar. There’s nothing wrong with that, if he chooses to go that route. But if he wants to be the man, then he needs to change that route. In the meantime, Rhodes Scholars is on a roll. He and Sandow have shown they can be a formidable tag team, bringing a natural chemistry to a rebuilding tag-team division. Cody Rhodes is enjoying this ride NOW, because in the future, he might not be.
